Introduction
Texas enchilada sauce is easy to make, and works perfectly with cheese and onion enchiladas, tostadas compuestas, or beef enchiladas. It’s a classic, delicious Tex-Mex flavor that you will never forget.

Texas Enchilada Sauce
Equipment
- 1 cast-iron skillet
- 1 non-slotted spoon
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp Tex-Mex spice blend
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp creamy peanut butter , or tahini
- 4 tbsp cornstarch
- ½ cup cold water
- 1 tsp hot sauce , such as Tapatio
Instructions
- In a cast-iron skillet, sauté Tex-Mex spice in olive oil over medium heat while gently stirring for 2 minutes.
- Add chili powder and stir for one minute more
- Add chicken broth, tomato sauce, and peanut butter. Bring to a simmer.
- Mix corn starch and cold water until smooth. Slowly add cornstarch liquid while stirring for one minute. Cook for 10 minutes over low heat, stirring occasionally.
- Add hot sauce, and stir.
