Gaspard’s Badass Barbecue Sauce
Sweet, vinegary barbecue sauce packed with flavor
Equipment
- 1 large saucepan
- 1 immersion blender
- 1 airtight container
Ingredients
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- ½ cup white onion , finely diced
- 2 cups water
- 6 ounce tomato paste , a small can
- ½ cup light brown sugar , packed
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- ¼ cup light Agave nectar
- ¼ cup lemon juice , freshly squeezed
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp black pepper , coarsely ground
- 1 tbsp Ancho chili powder
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1 tsp celery salt
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp hickory powder
- 2 tsp kosher salt
Instructions
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter
- Add the diced onions and sauté until translucent.
- Add the water, tomato paste, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, agave nectar, and lemon juice then stir until well combined
- Add the Worcestershire sauce plus all of the seasonings then stir again.
- Bring the sauce to a boil, put the lid on, then simmer for 20 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and let cool.
- Blend the sauce with an immersion blender until smooth
- Serve immediately, or transfer to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to several weeks.
