It’s a sweet, moist, batter-based quick bread that’s made with mashed bananas, flour, sugar, eggs, butter and of course, chocolate chips. More Information
Is it bread or cake?
Banana nut bread is really cake. But because it is baked in a loaf pan, it is called bread. It tastes good no matter what you call it.
Can I make banana bread muffins?
Yes! Instead of a loaf pan, just use a greased muffin pan. This is an excellent way to make banana bread. They can be frozen, then individually thawed and warmed in the microwave when ready to eat.
Variations
Try adding nuts, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice or lemon juice. You can leave out the chocolate chips if you want. That’s an extra ingredient I like to add that makes it extra delicious! If you choose to include nuts, use chopped pecan or walnuts for the best flavor and texture.
Try using brown sugar instead of granulated sugar. The banana bread will come out slightly darker, and will have a slight caramel smell.
You could dust the top of the finished loaf with confectioners sugar if you desire. This would be purely for presentation.
Tips
It’s best to use slightly over-ripe bananas when making Chocolate Chip Banana Bread. The bananas should be yellow with some flecks of brown. Ripe bananas are at their peek sweetness. They are moist enough to easily mash, and will keep the banana bread moist when it is done baking.
Don’t over-mix the batter! The batter should be evenly moistened, but not overly-smooth. The best batter has lumps in it!
