A note about cost

I researched Walmart for the lowest cost option on each of the ingredients. Using the labeled cost per unit, I calculated a total cost of $2.38 per cup.

My research found that a 2-cup bottle of Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch Dressing was $3.98, or $1.99 per cup. It actually costs $.39 more to make it yourself. Personally, I don’t like the flavor and texture of the bottled product. I like the packets that you mix together with buttermilk and mayonnaise.

The Hidden Valley Restaurant-Style Dressing packets, which does taste good to me, is more directly comparable to this recipe. It costs $11.47 for 4 packets, or $2.87 per packet and requires the addition of buttermilk and mayonnaise. The cost to use the packets comes out to $4.55, resulting in a savings of $2.17. The total savings for 4 packets is $8.68.

Now we’re talking!
